Employees in general, but particularly Millennials and Gen Zers also need to feel connected to the company and their coworkers — especially if you want them to stay with the company. While it used to be easy to connect in the hallways or over lunch, teams now need to take a proactive approach to building social capital and creating a culture where team members can connect and support one another.

It also includes fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment, where everyone feels like they belong, valued, recognised and rewarded for their contributions.

94% of employees say they would stay at a company longer if it invested in their learning and development. Simple ways to influence retention rates is by providing more opportunities for learning and professional development. Identify, address and align your employees strengths, capacity, aspirations and career paths with your company goals and invest in mentoring, personal and professional development programs.


3. A hybrid future


Be flexible: 83% of workers prefer a hybrid work model with flexibility to work from both home and onsite. Though it’s important to offer competitive pay, offering better compensation is often not enough. Numerous surveys taken during the pandemic found that money alone isn’t enough to keep workers; professionals also want additional benefits including hybrid work options and flexibility.

Review the needs of your people and have clear values: 8 out of 10 employees say it is important for their company’s values to align with their own. 55% of workplace professionals expect employee turnover increase this year. Understanding the needs of your people will increase retention.


5. Deliver clear employee health, safety and wellbeing benefits


Review your company workplace benefits. 54% of individuals would consider leaving their job if not given the benefit of flexibility in where and when they work. Mental health and flexibility are among expect workplace benefits in 2022. Take a holistic approach: Individuals are looking for companies that address their overall wellbeing: emotional, financial, social, physical and career wellness.
